New to yoga As a new student, we recommend that you begin with yin, hatha or restorative classes which are slower paced until you are more familiar with the flow series. A yoga private session(s) or an introductory workshop are other great options. Please call us at 920-716-3175 if you are unsure of where to begin.
About your personal practice: In all classes you are encouraged to abandon the competitive mindset, to simply listen to your body and adjust to your needs. On some days you may feel the need to take it slower and rest more during your practice. On others, you may feel the desire to work with more intensity. With a regular yoga practice you will gain flexibility, strength, balance and so much more.
Testimonial on keeping up with a consistent yoga practice... I have practiced yoga for about 5 years for 2 reasons: 1) During the hour of practice, no one judges, corrects or criticizes. I'm completely at ease and focused on the practice. It relaxes the mind. 2) After a few weeks of practice, muscle tone improved; after a few months, most muscle and nerve (e.g. sciatica) aches disappeared; after several years, my posture straightened. I feel light on my feet, proud, young and healthy. I'm 61.
Studio guidelines The practice of yoga begins before your class starts. To create the best experience for yourself and others, we ask that you take a moment to read these guidelines: Be Timely: Kindly arrive 5-15 minutes before class to prepare. Arrivals earlier than 15 minutes, please relax quietly in the front lobby. If the classroom door is closed, please read the sign as we may still be in a private session or preparing for your class. We understand on occasion you may arrive late. Please be respectful and enter quietly. Be Minimal: Remove your shoes and coat in the lobby. Bring only your valuables with you to the classroom. Once inside the classroom, place your valuables in the designated area, keeping the space around your mat clear of anything not necessary for your practice for safety and energetic purposes. Be Still: Please remain quiet in the hallway since there are massage in session. For this reason we invite soft conversation before and after class in the yoga room to build community. Be Known and Curious: Sign in at the desk. Reach out and ask any questions you may have before class starts. Be Aligned: Should the class be full, please be friendly and make room for others. Be Present: Plan on staying for the entire class. If you must leave early, end with savasana and exit quietly. Be Empty & Hydrated: Do not eat heavy at least 2 hours before practicing. We have free filtered water in the lobby. Be Healthy: Please stay home if you are ill with a cold or flu. During these times it is best for you to simply rest. Be Neutral: Refrain from wearing perfumes and lotions. Fellow students may have sensitivity. Wear non-restrictive clothing. Be Comfortable: We suggest layers of clothing. The studio is comfortably warm (not hot) for safe, effective stretching and lengthening of the muscles. Be Tidy: Place any props used during your practice back neatly in there appropriate places after class. Natural spray and towels are available for cleaning your mat and blocks. Rental mats must be wiped down. Be Awesome: Remind yourself how awesome you are for being here. We are so happy to have you part of the Inner Sun Yoga community!s
